adaptation of an antique rug by Magdalena Briner

The original rug was hooked approximately 1870 by Magdalena Briner who hooked motifs which were familiar to her.  The images in the rug are serpents, leaves, birds, cats, donkey, fruit and other images in the mind and hand of Magdalena.  She used whatever textiles or colors she had on hand which makes this a wonderful rug to use up wool strips left over from previous projects.  Then as you are hooking you can say to yourself...." I'll use this because 'that is all she had' to use.  I've mentally used that phrase numerous times throughout this rug and it is a beauty.

This design measures 22 1/2 x 66 which is a tad smaller than the original version but still captures it's essence.  It was hooked using mostly #8 and #8.5 cuts, will be drawn on linen backing with a 3" margin and serged to prevent raveling.  $105 plus shipping.

Auntie Peanut PATTERN

This is my design and based on a woman I knew from the age of 3 years old.  She was a wee bit of a woman who helped care for my ailing grandmother.  Auntie Peanut was like a family member and used to say that my hair was so curly that I looked just like Shirley Temple.

Antique Roosters

Pattern ~ This rug was hooked by me and is an adaptation of an antique rug hooked in the 1800s.  This particular piece has been sold; however, it is copyright free because of the age.
