SEWIES AND NEEDFUL THINGS

The Penny Rug Crow measures 7 1/4" high at the top of the head and 10 1/2" long.  It is made with black flannel for the body and felt for the pennies and wings.  Two strands of embroidery floss is button hole stitched around.

The eyes are pear beads and the centers of each of the small pennies are straight pins.  The crow is on a clear glass candlestick which has been painted with acrylics.  Even tho it is decorative it will serve well as a pincushion.   The cost is $40 + shipping

Acorn Pincushions & Needle Keeps

The Acorn Pincushions can be used any time of the year as they are very functional and have an earthy appeal to them.

They are 7 1/2" tall, made with wool as the acorn cap and woven cotton for the nut part.  One is on a ceramic base (left) while the others have a stem.  The decorative stitching is done with embroidery floss.

Americana container outside

Americana container inside

This is an 8" diameter cardboard container which I have painted using acrylics.  Inside the top of the container is a sizeable padded pincushion.  I also made a scissors holder which I've pinned to the pincushion for display purposes.

This is not only a decorative Americana box but also serves to contain sewing supplies, knitting or small sewing projects.  Or, if you are a rug hooker it could hold hooks, scissors, wool strips or snippets; handy but also a decorative display of Americana.

$25 plus shipping (scissors not included)

Homespun Easter Eggs would make a lovely display during the Easter season or give as a gift to someone you know instead of or in addition to chocolates.  They could even be used as a decorative pincushion.  They are approximately 3 1/2" long.

  $8 each

This standing Velveteen Rabbit is holding a little carrot and sitting on a tuffet.  From base to top of head it measures 8 1/2".

Not only is this a useful sewers helper but could stay displayed as decoration.  Another Shari Lutz inspired design, the standing Velveteen Rabbit is $50 plus shipping.

This primitive chick make-do pincushion is 17" high, is made of cotton and mounted on a painted and lightly sanded pedestal.  Hanging from the beak is a felt pear, pins, buttons and old wooden spool of thread are mounted on the back.

There are button eyes and hard to see is a comb made of wool roving on top of the head.  $38 plus shipping.

SET OF 2 Bandboxes

This set of two bandboxes look lovely in the setting with vintage quilts.  They are covered with paper and gently sanded to give a look of authenticity.  You can see in the other photo what the linings are for each.

The top bandbox is 21" in circumference, the bottom one is 25 3/4".  The paper chosen for the outside was intended to coordinate and inspired by vintage bandboxes.   A cotton fabric strip is being used to tie them together.  $50/pair + shipping

Wool Pincushions on Glass Pedestals.

The blue wool pincushion is 7.5" tall, lace is tacked onto the wool at the bottom, at the very top is a clear old button, a blue and white wool penny rug piece  embroidered with a blanket stitch, and finally a piece of lace tied to the button.

The white wool pincushion with wool green leaves is 12.5" tall and has buttons hanging from each leaf.

The pincushion with the brown leaves stands 10" the leaves have a primitive running stitch down the middle, pins have brown and gold beads on each and a collection of old buttons on a rusty wire stuck in the right side.  $22 each.

ICELANDIC LOPI hand knit sweater

This sweater was hand knitted by me using 100% wool Icelandic Lopi.  The colors are natural white, natural brown and pink dyed wool.  The measurement across the chest under the arms measures 21" and the sleeve length under the arm measures 18".  It is a women's medium size but would fit someone a little smaller or a tad bigger because the knit gives.  If you do not wish to have it as a turtleneck I can turn the ribbing under and secure the neck to a normal pullover style.

  $75 + shipping

BANDBOX

Bandboxes were originally used to store delicate laces.  The women would hold them gently on their laps as they traveled by stagecoach.  Today they are used for decorative purposes as well as to hold hankies, sewies, trims, etc.

The bandbox to the right is oval, measures 20" in circumference, 3 1/4" H x 7 1/2" L x 5 1/4" W.  The paper chosen to cover the outside was inspired by old papers used on vintage boxes, the inside is images of vintage stitchery patterns, the box has been gently sanded for that authentic look.  A vintage ribbon and instant ancestor print enhances the old look.   $25 + shipping

 MEMORY BOX (closed)

The Memory Box is a wonderful way to store special cards, vintage handkerchiefs, love letters, family heirlooms, or you could store your hooks if you are rug hooker or even your snippets and they are hidden away once you slide it closed.

This is a wooden box not paper mache' and measures 8 1/2" x 9" x 2" on the outside.  The top slides all the way out for convenience.  It has two layers of base paint, and various layers of top paint in English Mustard then lightly sanded for the worn appearance.

The inside has been decoupaged vintage script and pictures then coated with a matt clear sealer.  The cost is $40 + shipping.
